West Suburban Senior Services’ Adult Day Services are designed to provide care and companionship for seniors who need assistance or supervision. The program offers relief to family members or caregivers and allows the freedom to go to work, handle personal business or just relax while knowing their loved ones are well cared for and safe.

The Adult Day Services specialized programs are designed to help older and impaired adults live as normal and happy lives as possible, while remaining in the familiar environment of their own homes and communities. The Adult Day Services programs promote maximum independence for the older adult and create opportunities for companionship and socialization.

Staff and Services- The staff at each Adult Day Services work together to create an environment that is safe, secure and stimulating. A nurse monitors medications and health needs. A social worker offers support services to participants and families. The activity staff plan activities, exercises and recreational programs, keeping in mind the abilities, attention spans and interests of all the participants.

The Treatment Team works within the Adult Day Services program and travels to both the Bellwood and La Grange centers. The Team serves approximately forty clients from the areas of Metropolitan Chicago, Lyons, LaGrange and Proviso Township, whom currently participate in the Adult Day Services program.

The treatment team includes an activities director and three treatment staff members, as well as four care assistants and a nurse. Programming and activities provides mental and physical stimulation and opportunities for progressive learning. Clients participate in daily activities four times per week in the following areas: social work and relationships, through of personal wellbeing and awareness training; recreational therapy, through organized games and role play; literary therapy through writing stories and the use of classic and contemporary works of literature; and art therapy through the development of creative and expressive projects. Clients also participate in order to improve fine motor skills and manual dexterity, hand and eye coordination, memory and direction-following/learning progression.

The Treatment Team has a planned assessment strategy to determine what activities and characteristics give evidence to the fact that clients can apply skills to master content through individual productive work. With time, our client assessments will show the extent to which each client was able to develop or improve unique character strengths, mental/physical abilities, participatory and organizational levels. Each activity will be assessed to discern its value and effectiveness. The assessment strategy will allow the Treatment Team to make proper quality checks on our program and permit us to illustrate productivity and success.

The goal of the Treatment Team is to develop and uphold a participant-centered program that is voluntary, supports a sense of well-being, reflects positively our clients’ perception of themselves, their social status and role, and that ensures success and satisfaction on personal, physical, social and expressive levels.
